Dr. Joseph Park, MD
Dr. Joseph Park is the Foot and Ankle Division Head and Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Virginia. He serves as a Team Physician Foot and Ankle Consultant for the UVA Athletics Department.
nnnnDr Park completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at NYU Langone Medical Center and his Foot and Ankle Fellowship at Union Memorial Hospital. His research interests include orthopaedic implant testing, injury characterization/prevention for athletes, and lower extremity injury mitigation for motor vehicle collisions.
nnnnThrough his research collaborations with the Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering Departments at UVA, Dr. Park has helped establish UVA and the Center for Applied Biomechanics as nationally recognized leaders in biomechanical testing of orthopaedic implants. Dr. Park has been instrumental in securing funding and completing collaborative projects with Paragon 28, Stryker Corporation, Nanochon, the National Football League, and Hyundai Motor Company. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded a courtesy appointment in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in 2019. Dr. Park was promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure in 2020.
nnnnDr. Park is a reviewer for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Foot and Ankle International, as well as Foot and Ankle Orthopaedics. He is the Associate Foot and Ankle Fellowship Director at UVA, and has served as Chairman of the Physician Resource Center Committee for the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS). Dr. Park currently serves on the Board of Directors for the AOFAS Foundation and is the Chairman of the AOFAS Orthopod-cast Committee
